At the location of Broaway and 44th Street within the Time Square region of New York City we all got to behold this huge tribute to the end of World War II on August 14th, 1945 as well as the famous kiss between a sailor and a nurse which had been captured and featured on the cover of LIFE Magazine. Upon seeing this huge item one can't help feel moved. Yours truly had a smile plastered on my mug which stretched from ear to ear.
The event which had attracted plenty of couples for the sake of reenacting the kiss took place on the anniversary of that day decades earlier when hundreds of thousands had converged upon this same locale to witness the announcement that the war had ended. It was on the news ticker that the words appeared: “OFFICIAL – TRUMAN ANNOUNCES JAPANESE SURRENDER.” Unfortunately the sculpture was to only be at this location for less than a week.
