Photo of Nathan's Famous at Coney Island, Brooklyn Onto the Boardwalk at Coney Island
Here is the original Nathan's Famous hot dog stand. Home to the International Hot Dog Eating contest which takes place on the 4th of July every year. Participants from the world over take part in this contest. In 2002, Takeru Kobayashi of Japan, doubled the world record in hot dog eating by downing an astounding 50 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes. One of the entries onto the boardwalk of Coney Island. The boardwalk is 3.5 miles long. Along this stretch are many fast food shops, amusement rides for the whole family and games of chance.
Beyond it of course is the beach.

Renovations on the Parachute Ride at Coney Island. Skyview photo of the Parachute Ride in Brooklyn
Located by Steeplechase Park within Coney Island very close to the beach is the parachute ride. Originally a part of the 1939-40 World's Fair this amusement ride was quite a treat until it was closed down in the early 1960's. As of this writing in Spring 2003, it looks like the ride will be opened to the public once again following a renovation project of over $5 million. As you can see in the photos above, the work is being carried out.
Yours truly looks forward to enjoying this ride!
