Through the year
the Empire State Building goes through different colored lightings to fit
the day or time of year. For example, green might be for St. Patrick's Day
and Earth Day, whereas Red would be for Valentine's Day. In this photo,
the red, white and blue usually signifies patriotic holiday's such as President's
Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day and even Labor Day. |

"BOMBER
HITS EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, SETTING IT AFIRE AT THE 79TH FLOOR; 13 DEAD,
26 HURT; WIDE AREA ROCKED" was the headline on one newspaper after B-25 bomber looking for Newark Airport (in NJ) slammed into the 79th floor of the building on the morning of July 28, 1945. |
Despite the damage and lost lives, the building held firm and amazingly despite the many debris which had hit the ground down below for as far as blocks away, no one on the street was killed. |
